Questions about Validation

XHTML and CSS

In an effort to keep the City of Cranston's website as user-friendly and cross-browser compatible as possible, we are pushing to meet all W3C coding standards. What this means to users of this website is that any given page should look virtually identical nomatter what website browser they choose to view it in.

XHTML Validation:
All pages in the City of Cranston website should validate as proper XHTML 1.0 Transitional code. However, the content of the website is dynamic, and as such, certain dynamic elements may fail to validate (for example, if an ampersand is entered into certain areas instead of the proper HTML escape sequence for an ampersand).

CSS Validation:
All pages in the City of Cranston website should validate as proper CSS code. However, because of Internet Explorer's inability to properly handle certain CSS coding standards, Javascript workarounds were used. The CSS file that calls these workarounds uses Internet Explorer-only code, and thus may not validate properly.
